Objectives & Mission


  • To promote fellow feeling, social interaction between the librarians, self-help, self- reliance and self-respect among librarians working in the academic institutions
  • To unite all librarians in Goa by holding conferences and meetings for the discussion of questions affecting the library profession and matters affecting libraries or their regulation or management or otherwise. To work for improvement in the conditions of service, social status and prospects of the librarians working in the academic institutions; Scope of the association is restricted to Goa state.
  • To protect and safeguard the rights of the librarians working in the academic institutions by constitutional methods; to take all lawful action, including legal action, in order to protect professional and those areas of public interest affecting, or related to, the profession. To do all such other lawful things as are necessary and as advisable for the advancement of its interests.
  • To initiate, sponsor, undertake, encourage and promote scholarly study, research and consultancy work in the fields of library science and services. The Association shall constantly strive to relate its academic work to social needs of the community, and shall focus its research and consultancy work to socially relevant themes.
  • To provide consultancy service to private / corporate and other educational institutions in the field of library and information Science.
  • To provide opportunities for self-education and self-improvement among librarians working in the academic institutions;
  • To celebrate Dr. S.R. Ranganathan Birth Anniversary by conducting book exhibitions, lectures, seminars, workshops and other instructional programmes to further the aforementioned objectives of the Association.
  • To publish (print and online) books, newsletters, journals, bulletins, etc., on topics of interest to professionals as well as public relating to library and information services.
  • To suggest ways and means to improve the conditions of the libraries on behalf of the library community in Goa and to make an appropriate recommendations to Government and other higher authorities and organizations for protection of the profession.
  • To co-operate with other state, national, international and other organizations with similar objectives.
  • To do all such other things as incidental or conducive to the attainment of the above mentioned objectives.
